AP: Suicide bomber kills 14 at Afghan province council
A suicide bomber dressed in a police uniform killed 14 people including a prominent provincial council chief outside the council headquarters in northern Afghanistan on Monday, authorities said. The Taliban insurgency quickly claimed responsibility. Seeking to weaken the Afghan government, Taliban insurgents have been carrying out attacks and assassinations intended to intimidate both officials and civilians ahead of next year's withdrawal of most international troops.

CNN: Suicide attack kills government leader in northern Afghanistan
A suicide attack in northern Afghanistan on Monday morning killed at least 11 people, including the head of the local provincial government, police said. The attack took place outside the Baghlan provincial council compound in the capital, Pul-e-Khumri, according to Police Chief Asadullah Sherzad.

KP: 10 Afghan local police officers killed or injured in Taliban attack
According to local authorities in eastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan, at least ten Afghan local police officers were killed or injured during clashes with the Taliban militants in Moqor district on Sunday. District governor for Moqor, Sahib Khan Elham confirming the report said the incident took place around 10am local time after a number of Taliban militants attacked Afghan local police forces check points.

AP: Afghan police chief shot dead outside home
Motorcycle-riding gunmen assassinated a police chief in front of his house after he led an anti-Taliban campaign in western Afghanistan, an official said Saturday. Police Chief Abdul Ghani was leaving his driveway in his car outside his home in Farah province when the two raced up and opened fire.

A law banning violence against women, considered a major step forward in women's rights in Afghanistan, failed to pass parliament. The law would have also created shelters for abused women, and limited the number of wives permitted to two.

Afghan Mines Minister Waheedullah Shahrani had led a delegation to Sydney, Australia to attend a mining development conference there next week. The Minister is expecting to hold a series of meeting with Australian officials on the sidelines of the conference to discuss Australia’s assistance in the development of Afghanistan’s mining industry and tapping into mineral and energy reserves.
