CNN: NATO investigates report of Afghan civilian deaths
NATO is investigating a report by Afghan authorities that an airstrike by coalition forces killed eight children in Kapisa province this week, it said Friday. In a statement Thursday, Afghan President Hamid Karzai strongly condemned what he said was an aerial bombing by foreign forces.

Tolonews: US-Taliban Talks End Without Result, Pakistani TV Says
The talks between the US and Taliban in Qatar have ended without reaching any results, a Pakistani Tv channel has reported. A Pakistan TV Channel, Dunya News, has reported that representatives of the Haqqani Network and Hezb-e-Islami led by Gulbduddin Hekmatyar were also present during the talks between the US and the Taliban.

NYTimes: Afghan Officials Question Reports of Children Dying in Camps
Afghan government officials cast doubt Tuesday on whether more than 20 children who died in camps recently had perished from the cold. The officials were sharply critical of some of the camp residents, complaining that they had exaggerated their circumstances to attract more aid and that news accounts of the deaths were “one-sided.”

Tolonews: Two Taliban Leaders Captured in Helmand Operation
Two Taliban leaders were captured in a joint operation by Afghan and Coalition forces in Lashkargah the capital of Helmand province on Wednesday, Isaf said. "One leader planned attacks in Kandahar province, while the second leader conducted roadside bomb and direct-fire attacks against coalition forces," Isaf said in a statement.

Agencies: Kandahar shooting kills 5 guards, policemen
An Afghan official says a shooting in the southern city of Kandahar has left five dead, including two police officers and three private security guards. A spokesman for the governor’s office, Zulmi Ayubi, said on Tuesday that a man who was part of a force guarding a checkpoint opened fire during an argument overnight.

WaPo: CIA digs in as Americans withdraw from Iraq, Afghanistan
The CIA is expected to maintain a large clandestine presence in Iraq and Afghanistan long after the departure of conventional U.S. troops as part of a plan by the Obama administration to rely on a combination of spies and Special Operations forces to protect U.S. interests in the two longtime war zones, U.S. officials said.
